Lyme Park Christmas 2026: the house is dressed as The World at Christmas, 27 Nov to 24 Dec, last entry 3pm. Entry £19 adult; festive tea £30.

Lyme Park’s Christmas for 2026 is already published, which makes it the most complete festive day out near Stockport so far. The National Trust house at Disley, just over the borough boundary, reopens its rooms as The World at Christmas from Friday 27 November to Thursday 24 December, each one decorated around how a different part of the world celebrates.

There is no Father Christmas and no light trail. It is a decorated house, free choir performances in the courtyard at weekends, a festive afternoon tea and two Christmas concerts, set in 1,400 acres of park you can walk all winter.

The afternoon tea has a glass of non-alcoholic bubbly, winter soup, sandwiches, scones and festive sweets, with unlimited tea and coffee. You book by table, not by person: the deposit is £20 for a table of two and £40 for a table of four, taken off the bill, with the rest paid on the day. Get there early with a house ticket and you can borrow a Regency outfit from the dressing room for free (National Trust event).

The concerts are part of Lyme’s chapel series. The candlelight concert gives after-hours access to the chapel and costs £35; the daytime concert on 2 December is £22, with normal admission on top. Both book on 0344 249 1895 (candlelight concerts; Concerts in the Chapel).

Lyme Park at Christmas when the house is shut

The house closes after Christmas Eve, but the rest of the estate keeps going right through to New Year’s Eve (closed only on Christmas Day). From National Trust’s opening calendar for Lyme, read 4 October 2026, these hours apply every open day from 15 November to 31 December:

Part of the estate Hours
Park and car park 8.30am to 5pm
Garden 10.30am to 3pm
Crow Wood Playscape 9.30am to 4.30pm
Timber Yard Café 10am to 4pm
House Tearoom 10.30am to 4pm
Refreshment kiosk 9.30am to 4pm
Hall shop and Timber Yard shop 11am to 4pm
Pre-loved bookshop 10.30am to 4.30pm

So the week between Christmas and New Year works for a walk, the playscape and a café stop on a park and garden ticket (£9 adult), even though the decorations are packed away indoors.

Access in the house over winter

The World at Christmas route runs through the ground floor of the house with level access via the Stag Parlour. The top floor is closed to visitors over the winter. The Servants’ Hall, where the afternoon tea is served, is on the ground floor but is reached over uneven cobbles; chairs with arms and low or high tables can be chosen when booking. The chapel has one step, with a ramp available.

Getting there from Stockport without a car

  • Bus: the 199 Skyline runs twice an hour from Stockport, Stepping Hill and Hazel Grove towards Buxton, and the National Trust quotes £3 each way. Get off at Burton Road West, a five-minute walk from the entrance.
  • Train: Disley station is about 20 minutes’ walk from the entrance, with a waymarked route.
  • Either way, the house is a further mile, about 30 minutes, from the gate. A free volunteer shuttle runs most days from 10.30am to 4pm from the admissions hut; call 01663 762023 to check it is running.
  • Arriving car-free gets you free entry to the park and garden and 10% off in the cafés when you show a bus ticket dated that day.

All from the National Trust’s Lyme visitor page. Train times over the holidays are on our Christmas trains and buses page.

Closer to home

Bramall Hall, the borough’s own Tudor house, is decorated each December too: see Bramall Hall at Christmas. For Father Christmas, Lyme is not the place; our Santa’s grotto in Stockport page lists who ran visits last year.
